About

About This Attraction

The Shrine of Hazrat Ali, known locally as the Blue Mosque, is the spiritual heart of northern Afghanistan. Its stunning blue and white tilework, towering minarets, and vast marble courtyard make it one of the most visually extraordinary buildings in Central Asia. The shrine is believed to be the burial place of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, and draws pilgrims from across the region. Each spring during Nowruz, thousands gather here for the raising of the sacred standard.
